Natalie Jo Glasgow,
The past five months with you have been the happiest of my life.
And I love you more than I can put into words but I'm gonna try...
Will you marry me?
(If it fits, it ships!)
We were in Indiana to celebrate with family for Wes' graduation (my brother in-law). On Saturday, we had planned to go shopping in Muncie and Muncie is a bit of a drive from where we were staying. I took a nap on the way there because we had been at a pinewood derby all morning. The plan had been to go get food as soon as we arrived. While I was sleeping, everyone decided to change the plans which annoyed me when I woke up. I was told that Wes wanted to make sure he got donuts for the morning.
When we were walking into the bakery, Tiffany (my sister) had Nicole (my sister) on FaceTime. I was distracted by trying to get Nicole's attention when Tiffany shoved my face toward the glass display case and said "Look at the cupcakes!" I noticed they said marry me and had to take a second look to see that they spelled out Natalie, will you marry me? I was still a little unsure of what was happening. I turned to look at Mitch and he was down on one knee. Everyone in the bakery was looking at us (all the women were either smiling or crying). Then he asked, and I said yes! After that we got to eat an insane amount of cupcakes.
Now, my start of this story begins a few days beforehand, when I reached out to Tiffany and Nicole to start to orchestrate this whole thing. I should note that I can't take credit for the idea as the initial concept was suggested by Brendan Squires while we were at work. Fastforward to Saturday...
I had a difficult time containing my excitement in the days leading up to Saturday. Natalie is so hard to surprise! During the morning, while we were at the pinewood derby, I was jokingly pushing Natalie off of her chair and she started hitting where I was storing the ring. I couldn't over-react, as she might figure out that something was going on. It was really cool though when Natalie fell asleep resting on me, as when she reached out her hand to hold mine, I was stashing the ring between the other, unoccupied fingers in my hand. God was with us as the radio kept playing love songs on the way to Concannon's. When we got there and parked, I knew -- It's on.
We entered the door and I let Natalie pass through first and my eyes scanned the room as I didn't know exactly where the cupcakes were gonna be. Then, I saw them! Just then, Natalie noticed that Tiffany was FaceTiming with Nicole and I began to kneel when it happened. It felt so surreal and I could hardly still believe that we were still on Earth! Natalie's face was in a mix of amazement and she was wearing the biggest smile I've ever seen!
